Academic integrity
Where our help stops, in plain words.
You remain the author of your thesis, and whatever we do with you should be something you can explain to your guide without any hesitation.
We are writing this policy out because the name of the site can give a wrong idea. Many scholars are searching “thesis writing service” when they get stuck somewhere in the work. What we give here is help with their own thesis, from the planning stage till the viva. Nobody gets a finished thesis from us to put their name on the cover.
What you’ll sign, and why it matters to us
At the time of submission you have to sign an undertaking. In that you declare the thesis is your own work and it was checked with a software approved by your university. Along with it, a certificate comes from your guide side, and in that he or she states the thesis is original. Both come from the UGC regulations on academic integrity of 2018 (clause 6). The 2022 PhD regulations also ask for the same two documents at submission, in clause 11.
We read that undertaking word by word. If some help from our side would make your signature false, we will not give that help. In case copying is found after the degree is awarded, the 2018 regulations allow the university to keep the degree in abeyance. So even long after your viva is over, if somebody finds copied portions in your thesis, the degree can be held back.
What we do
Whatever help we give, you should be able to tell your guide about it. In the planning stage we work with you on the research gap, the objectives, the method and the chapter outline. For data we help with questionnaire design and sample size. We run the analysis and then explain the output till you can explain it yourself. On the writing side we give comments on your drafts, edit in tracked changes, do the formatting and go through the similarity report along with you. Later we prepare you for journal submission, replies to reviewers and the viva-voce.
Some of the work does include drafting support. In those cases the draft is built from your notes, your data and your own argument. After that you revise it till it says what you actually mean, in words you can defend in front of your guide. Your guide may pick any paragraph and ask you about it, and you should be able to answer properly for every one of them.
What we won’t do
- We don’t sell ready-made theses, dissertations or papers. One scholar’s work is never reused for another scholar.
- Making up data is not done here. We will not fill the questionnaires on our own, and we won’t touch the responses you collected to make the result look better.
- Some people run test after test till some p-value comes below 0.05 and report only that one. That kind of thing we refuse.
- Tricks to hide copied text from the similarity checker, like swapped letters, white text, text pasted as images or synonym-spinning software.
- Adding references you haven’t read, just to make the literature review look bigger.
- We will not sit an exam, a coursework test or a viva for anybody, and we won’t prompt you during one.
- Our names will not go on your paper. If someone wants a name added as author without doing any work, please don’t ask us to fix that.
- No promise that a journal will accept your paper, or that the committee will approve your synopsis.
Our help stops at this list. When somebody asks us for any of these things we say no, and we also tell them the reason. If a project slowly starts moving in that direction, we stop the work, as per our terms.
Similarity reports are read honestly
Most universities follow the levels given in the 2018 regulations for theses. Similarity up to 10% has no penalty. If it is between 10% and 40%, the university asks for a revised script, and the scholar gets six months at most to submit it. Above 40% and up to 60%, the scholar cannot submit a revised script for one year. Above 60%, the university cancels the registration. Many universities set their own limits over and above the 2018 regulations. Some are more strict and some are more relaxed.
When the similarity report show a high score, mostly the reason is simple. Somewhere the citation is missing. Or a line was taken word for word and nobody put quotation marks around it. In some chapters the paragraph just follows the source sentence by sentence. We correct these in the proper way. You do the rewriting along with us, so the new text is your own work only. Our plagiarism check service page explains how we go through the report with you.
AI-written text
The 2018 regulations have nothing on AI-generated text, but now universities are making their own rules. For example, Osmania University asks scholars to declare that AI-generated content in the thesis is not more than 20%, and similarity also has to be within 10%. Some checkers now give a separate AI report along with the similarity report, and DrillBit is one of them.
We don’t give AI-written chapters, because they are not your own work. The free AI tools on this site give you feedback and questions. They will not give finished text for submission. Suppose ChatGPT or some other AI tool was used when you wrote a chapter, just tell us that at the start itself, no problem. We will help you to rework those portions in your own words before the check at your university.
Can you tell your supervisor you’re getting help?
Yes, you should be able to tell your guide. Editing, advice on statistics and viva practice are normal kinds of help, and many guides expect scholars to take some of it. If you feel you must hide some help from your guide, then that help is wrong, whether it comes from us or anyone else.
Some scholars are not sure if the help they want is okay with us or not. For that, ask us before starting. Just WhatsApp us two line description of what you need, and we will revert with a clear yes or no.
