Research proposal and synopsis help
A synopsis your committee can say yes to.
Yes, we help you prepare your PhD synopsis or research proposal so the gap, objectives, method and time plan are clear to your committee.
A synopsis is short, and many scholars find that short length is the hard part. Bangalore University’s format asks for about 12 to 14 A4 pages. For Anna University the limit is 15 pages, and references also should not cross 15. At the University of Madras the limit is 5,000 words. Within these few pages the committee wants to see a real gap in the literature. They also want objectives you can finish, a method that suits them, and a plan the busy professors on the committee will sign.
In the synopses scholars send us, mostly the ideas are already there. What is missing is one clear sentence about the gap, that is, what previous researches have not covered and how your study will cover it. We fix that sentence with you first, and the rest of the synopsis is built around it.
Who this suits
Scholars mostly come to us at one of these three points.
- You have only a broad area, for example microfinance and women’s self-help groups. The committee is asking for a narrower problem before it will approve your registration.
- Your synopsis came back from the Doctoral Committee with remarks like “objectives not measurable” or “gap not clear”. Next meeting is about one month away.
- Your thesis is almost complete, and the final synopsis for pre-submission is pending within your university’s page or word limit.
What you get
- The research gap in two sentences
We prepare a short note with you on what earlier studies have covered, what they left out, and why that matters. It comes from your own reading, so you can explain it in the committee without notes.
- Title options
We suggest three or four working titles. In every title we put your variables, where the study happens and whom you are studying. We don’t make the title promise more than your study will really do. Think well before you pick one, because in some universities the title cannot be changed once the synopsis is accepted.
- Objectives and hypotheses
Three to five objectives, each written clearly enough that a reader knows what result will show it is achieved. Hypotheses we write only if your design actually needs it.
- A method outline
Design, population, sample, tools and analysis plan, kept as short as a synopsis allows. For the full method in detail, our research methodology help goes deeper.
- A work plan
A semester-wise timeline that follows the UGC 2022 rules your university is following. Coursework, data collection, analysis and writing are placed in an order the committee can believe.
- A final synopsis drawn from your thesis
For the pre-submission stage we help you summarise every chapter and the main findings within the university’s limit. Wherever the synopsis repeats the thesis, the wording should match word for word.
- References in your style
The reference list is done in APA, MLA, Chicago or whichever style your department asks for. We check each entry in the list against the citations in the text, one by one.
How the work runs
Tell us your stage and your rules
First tell us whether this is the registration synopsis or the final one before thesis submission. Send us university format, the committee’s comments if there are any, and the papers you have read till now.
Find the gap together
On a call we go through the papers you have read. We keep asking questions till the gap comes down to one clear sentence. Many times the gap is already written somewhere in your notes but mixed with background.
Build the synopsis around it
You write the sections from the outline we agreed on. We go through your draft with you in tracked changes. Portions that don’t fit in the page limit get cut, and we check that every objective has a method to answer it.
Prepare for the committee
We help you make a short slide deck for the committee meeting. You also get a list of questions committees usually ask on a synopsis, and we discuss about your answers on a call.
Ask about research proposal and synopsis help
Only four fields to fill. We will call or WhatsApp you back by the next working day, and many times earlier than that. First talk with us is free, you don’t pay anything for it.
How long it takes
| Work | Typical time | Depends on |
|---|---|---|
| Fixing the gap and the objectives | 1 to 2 weeks | How much reading you have already finished |
| Registration synopsis, from outline to final draft | 2 to 4 weeks | Your university’s format, and how fast you write |
| Revising a synopsis the committee sent back | 1 to 2 weeks | The number of comments, and whether the gap itself has to change |
| Final synopsis from a completed thesis | 1 to 2 weeks | The page or word limit, and how ready the thesis is |
| Slides and practice for the committee meeting | 3 to 5 days | When the meeting is scheduled |
Committees meet as per their own calendar. In some departments the time between two meetings is long, and a synopsis that is not ready for one meeting can wait months for the next one. Please tell us the meeting date at the start itself. We plan the work backwards from it.
What it costs
The synopsis is only a few pages, but the thinking behind it can take weeks. Once we know your stage and your university rules, we send you a written quote. It lists the work, the rounds of changes and the dates. When the committee has already returned your synopsis, correcting it usually costs less for you than starting from just an idea.
The quote depends on
- Registration synopsis or final synopsis
- How much reading you have done, and whether the gap is clear yet
- The page or word limit and format your university has fixed
- If you also want slides and practice for the committee
- When the committee meeting is

Questions scholars ask
Are a synopsis and a research proposal the same thing?
At registration stage, most Indian universities use both words for the same document, the plan of your study. Some universities call the summary given just before thesis submission also a “synopsis”. See the table for the difference.
| The registration synopsis | The final synopsis | |
|---|---|---|
| When | At admission time, or in the first year after coursework | A few months before you submit the thesis |
| What it says | What you plan to study and how you will study it | What you studied and what results you got |
| Who reads it | The Research Advisory Committee or the Doctoral Committee | First the committee, then the university, many times along with the examiner panel |
| Common mistake | Objectives too wide to finish in three years | Summary does not match the thesis |
How many objectives should a PhD synopsis have?
Mostly three to five. With less than three, the work can look too thin for a doctorate. More than five are hard to finish and hard to write up. Link each objective to one part of your method, and afterwards to one part of your results.
My Doctoral Committee rejected my synopsis. What now?
This happens to many scholars, so no need to worry. Take the comments as a list of things to do. In most cases the committee wants a narrower problem, objectives that can be measured, or a method that matches the objectives. Send us the synopsis with the comments and we work out the changes with you before the next meeting.
Does the synopsis need a plagiarism check?
In many universities, yes. VTU, for example, wants a plagiarism report from the research centre along with the synopsis for the pre-submission colloquium. Check your university’s rule. Also write the gap and the objectives in your own words from the first draft itself, then the similarity stays low.
Can I change my title after the synopsis is approved?
Sometimes it is possible, but don’t depend on it. Bharathiar University expects the thesis title to be same as the synopsis title. At the Dr. M.G.R. medical university in Chennai, the title becomes final along with the synopsis. Mostly you need the committee’s approval for any change. Better to fix the title carefully at this stage itself.
Do I need the whole thesis written before the final synopsis?
In some universities, practically yes. Anna University and KTU in Kerala both ask you to bring the first draft of the thesis to the synopsis meeting, along with the synopsis. If you have reached that point, our PhD thesis help covers the chapters also.
Stuck on a chapter? Talk it through with us.
Call or WhatsApp, say where you are in your thesis, and we’ll tell you plainly what kind of help makes sense, if any.
